Initial jobless claims fells as expected in the last week of November, but there was a bump in the four-week average of new claims. Economists disagreed about the significance of the numbers, released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Claims for jobless benefits decreased by 15,000 to 338,000 after adjustment for the week ended Dec. 1. The Wall Street estimate was 17,000.
